Default I've Used Humira

I have been struggling with Crohn's for 11 years. I have used Humira off-and-on for the past three years with little result. I did clinical trials with Remicade 10 years ago. At that time doctors didn't know much about it and thought you could only use the medicine once. Now my body doesn't respond to either medicines. Does anyone use other medicines besides Pred., Asacol, Pentasa, Imuran, or Entocort for their Crohn's? Very happy to have this website!

Natalizumab has been recently released for restricted use. It works in a different way from Humira or Remicade which are blockers to TNF (tumor necrosis factor). Also, stem cells are being used in a study as several sites (Stony Brook University, NY). --robert

I have been on so many drugs that have done more harm than good. They had me on 6MP ( almost killed me), Remicade ( lungs and intestines closed down- two weeks in hospital) and others. My body seems to like Prednizone. I started Humira about three months ago and have never felt better it seems to be moving toward remission. I wonder why I have not tried it earlier.
Have you tried Meditation? I have been doing TM for 30 years and my Dr's think it has helped keep me alive.
Hope you find peace and health soon

My 13 year old daughter has Crohns in her stomach, after many different drugs, including oral pred, 6MP, remicade, and Methotrexate she is now on Low Dose Naltrexone.
She just started taking this about 3 weeks ago and so far so good, no side effects. But she had just come off of oral pred, so we don't know if it's working yet. The oral pred stays in your system for at least 2 months after.
I also put her on the SC Diet for 3 weeks, she had no pain however, being thirteen all she wanted to do was eat cereal, pasta, bread, all the things the SCDiet doesn't let you eat!

Hello,

My son who just turned 15 last week, has been struggling with crohns for three years now. He's been on so many different medications, I can't keep track. I was wondering if you had any advice on how to help me keep his spirits up. He is about to start Humira and he's not looking forward to it.

Hi, my son is 14 and has Crohn's disease and has been sufferinmg since he was 8. Also trying lots of different meds. Some kinda worked, but not enough. He just had 15 " of his Colon removed several months ago and we are dealing with lots of Dr's with not much result so far. We are trying to schedule reattachment surgery, but it just isn't that simple. I am taking lots of time off work so he is not alone. Although (other than his colostomy) his health is good, not perfect, but better. . Iron still sucks though. Up down, up down. He was hospitalized last fall for a month and went through hell at times. He couldn't stop bleeding and the diarea was bad. It was awful. We pulled him out of school his freshman year. I make sure he gets outside, we go for walks and I reasure him he is not alone. He is a honor roll student, so we are lucky, but we want him to heal. Just get through what he can at home schooling and get well. I let him vent when he needs to, but it's hard. very hard. He has lot of people that love him. I want to find a cure. His father also has Crohn's, had two surgerys, but is doing well. He has been luckier than our son.

I have struggled with Crohns for 14years and i have taken lots of meds like Prednisone, Pentasa, Imuran, Sulfasalizine but I have never taken Remicade or Humira. I am very interested in learning more about it. At this time I am participating in a study drug. It seems to be going good, I've only had 1 bad reaction to the infusion. I to would like to hear more about other meds. So have you had any surguries?

I'm hoping to start Humira soon. I've been on prednisone, asacol, 6MP, and remicade. Currently I'm taking entocort, pentasa, and imuran. I have no appetite and a lot of fatigue, which I think it probably because of the imuran.

I've also been in 2 research studies. In the first one I had one dose of remicade, and then got placebo for the rest of the trial . The second study was for a "remicade-like" drug. I had an allergic reaction during the second infusion, which they controlled with benadryl and slowing the infusion to half speed. I took part in the study for around a year. However, when my doctor prescribed remicade a few years later, I had a severe allergic reaction. From what I've read, I probably doomed my chances of remicade working by participating in those research studies. The lapse in time wasn't good.

I started Humira 2 months ago for crohn's arthritis and it is starting to work wonderfully. My constant back, neck and joint pain is 75% better already. What a joy to do laundry without agonizing pain. Hope it works as well for you and others as it has for me.
thanks,
pat
